From Portland to Seattle with Love

Fall is my favorite time of year! The weather in Las Vegas is absolutely perfect and the spirit of the holidays just wraps itself around you everywhere you go. This last week I took a small trip to the Pacific Northwest to check out Portland for the first time. The leaves are changing, the air is crisp and the spirit of Fall is everywhere! I am so glad I went during this time of year and even more glad I had the opportunity to explore some of the city in my limited time there. (If my phone wasn’t freaking out on me from the new software update I would have far better photos, but I digress) Since I was so close, I decided to take the train from Portland to Seattle and I am oh SO glad I did, but there’s more of that below. For now…Portland here we go!

Voodoo Doughnuts

Ok first of all ADORABLE! In the funkiest way of the term. I’ve heard the line to this place can be intense, and the stanchions out front indicated the truth to that, but I was super lucky to be able to hop right on in without a line. Unfortunately, they do not have gluten-free doughnuts so I left with a slight tear in my eye but they DO offer vegan options for all of those out there who are looking!

Dante’s Pizza

Funky. Eclectic. Amazing. This place is definitely worth a stop. I had just eaten so didn’t grab a bite but if you’re looking for a good and stiff drink this is your place. It has a fun mix of rock n’ roll with a slight burlesque feel and I’m sure the stage has seen just as an eclectic of a scene. It is separated into a larger space and a smaller bar/lounge. There’s also a fire pit you can sit around and drink that will keep you warm on those chilly Portland days.

River Pig Saloon

Ok. If you know anything about me it should be my love for old western themed ANYTHING. This place is on the adorable 13th Street in the Pearl District of Portland. The staff are friendly, their drinks are steady and the happy hour is great. There’s also ample space with keeping a cozy feel but the bar is nice and long so you don’t feel cramped.

Tilt

A much different vibe than River Pig Saloon, quite the opposite in fact. This place has a more modern feel but without feeling cold. It’s actually a huge space but separated in a way that makes it feel more intimate. The service was great, although it was an off hour and quiet when I went. Definitely loved the atmosphere and the location in Pearl was perfect.

Cheryl’s on 12th

I went here twice. Once for dinner on the night I first arrived and once for brunch. I definitely recommend it for breakfast or brunch. Their Portuguese Fried Rice is quite possibly the best meal I have ever had! And it’s gluten and dairy free! Seriously, try it if you get out that way. I simply love the diner, bakery, cafe mix of the ambiance here that is cozy but bright. They have a killer Bloody Mary and super friendly staff!

Another great breakfast spot: Screen Door

Dossier Hotel

I stayed at the Dossier which was great! I loved the boutique feel to it but the room was quite spacious! They also have a great bar downstairs called Opal that is roomy and quaint all at the same time. All of the staff were super friendly and helpful!

Portland you are weird and I love it!

Portland –> Seattle on Amtrak

Do yourself a favor and get aboard! This is such a great way to see some of the true beauty of the Pacific Northwest. And they have a bar cart so you can grab a cocktail or bottle of wine, relax and enjoy the ride without having to deal with traffic or an airport.

Now for my quick day in Seattle (for more on my previous visits to Seattle click HERE) I made my traditional venture to Elliott’s for some oysters! It’s right on the water and even though it’s in a touristy area I still love it! After I was properly fed, we headed over to MBar for my first time. Let me say the views from this place are incredible! Even though they offered blankets to sit outside with around the fire pit my Vegas blood was FREEZING so we booked it to the adorable bar downstairs but not without taking in the view first!

I ended up at the Hyatt in Lake Washington which was absolutely beautiful. The views were incredible, the staff was friendly and by far they have the best Bloody Mary I have ever had.

So thank you Pacific Northwest for a lovely fall getaway and for showing me your beauty once again!

Until next time.
